This past week has been a busy one for our family. We had birthdays, parties, outings & several hiking trips. Yet, as the week ended, I found myself frustrated and a little dark cloud was hovering over my cartoon head. Haha. So I took some space today and did a few things to help lift that mood… and thought I would share!

Nature helps. Even though we had hiked through the woods quite a bit, I spent most of that time wrangling kids, and very little looking at the sky & trees, deeply inhaling the scent of the woods. And by very little, I mean almost none! So I laid out on the grass, breathing deep and absorbing the blue of the sky, which by the way, helps boost serotonin, which helps with feelings of happiness. (It also helps you produce melatonin, so you can get better sleep too!) So get outside, look to the sky, and take a moment for yourself!
Trees and blue sky can boost your mood!
Grounding (or earthing). Take your shoes off and walk barefoot on the grass or dirt. This helps you slow down, appreciate the world you are literally walking on. Studies have shown it can help lower heart rate and blood pressure. If you live near a beach, sand not only works, but also exfoliates your skin!

Grounding barefoot helps your connect to the earth.
Happy oils. Essential oils can vary as to which will make you feel better, but here are some ideas… citrus oils are often considered “sunny oils”, because they originated from sunny climates! I suggest trying orange or grapefruit. Floral scents can also improve mood, try Joy (which is a blend of many floral scents)! If you are looking for something a little more masculine, give the Believe blend a chance- every single oil in this blend has shown the ability to boost serotonin levels!

Try water! People often recommend “adding water” when your kids are acting squirrelly, and let me tell you, don’t discredit this as an adult! Take a warm bath or a longer shower and clear your head! Even just a foot bath can help you relax and feel less stressed & moody! On a hot summer day you can even find me in our kids’ inflatable pool. 😬🤷🏻‍♀️

Try adding water!T
Try meditation. I never saw myself as a meditation type, but I have surprisingly learned to love to slow down & take deep breaths while following guided meditation from an app on my phone. There are a lot of options for meditation app, or you can even find options on YouTube. I’ve actually enjoyed my meditation time so much I am thinking about recording my own meditations some day. While I do relax and wipe away bad moods with the ones I have, I like the idea of having a more biblical base to the ones I use.

So tell me, how do YOU wipe away a bad mood?

Stay well & vibrant! ~Naomi
